As I was looking through "Jane's" cumulative folder, I noticed she began head start in Stafford County Public Schools. One of the things I noticed from her head start records that her teacher stated, "needs a better self-image....is withdrawn when you are negative towards her....does not get any help at home."
Then I began to read her kindergarten records, she had a behavior intervention plan. One of the things the teacher noted was that she needed to show more respect towards her teachers and her peers. Her teacher referred her to the special education department for her behavior, and they began implementing the behavior intervention plan. "Jane" was also referred for speech services for expressive and receptive language areas and for her to learn how to express how she feels. The special education department recommended her for retention in kindergarten.
This enlightened me after reading this, since I am now seeing some of the same behaviors that she showed from the beginning while she was in head start.
